چکیده

A control method, known as adaptive feedforward cancellation (AFC), is applied to damp sinusoidal disturbances due to microphonics in superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities. AFC provides a method for damping internal and external sinusoidal disturbances with known frequencies. It is preferred over other schemes because it uses rudimentary information about the frequency response at the disturbance frequencies, without the necessity for an analytic model (transfer function) of the system. It estimates the magnitude and phase of the sinusoidal disturbance inputs and generates a control signal to cancel their effect. AFC, along with a frequency estimation process, is shown to be very successful in the cancellation of sinusoidal signals from different sources. The results of this research may significantly reduce the power requirements and increase the stability for lightly loaded continuous-wave SRF systems. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Superconducting Rf Control Issues at Cesr*

RF controls of the superconducting cavities have to deal with an extremely heavy beam loading in CESR. A feature of the CESR RF system operation is that superconducting cavities are under-coupled at high beam currents. This means that the RF system operates very close to Robinson stability limit. Analysis of the steadystate stability of the CESR RF system and the results of measurements with be...

Adaptive algorithms for the rejection of sinusoidal disturbances with unknown frequency

Two algorithms are presented for the rejection of sinusoidal disturbances with unknown frequency. The rst is an indirect algorithm where the frequency of the disturbance is estimated, and the estimate is used in another adaptive algorithm that adjusts the magnitude and phase of the input needed to cancel the eeect of the disturbance. A direct algorithm that uses the concept of a phase-locked lo...

The LEP Superconducting RF System

The basic components and the layout of the LEP rf system for the year 2000 are presented. The superconducting system consisted of 288 four-cell cavities operating at 352 MHz powered by 36 klystrons providing on average of 0.6 MW of rf power. This system was complemented by 56 cavities of the original copper rf system. A total accelerating voltage of 3630 MV could be provided routinely allowing ...

Design of Adaptive Feedforward Algorithms Using Internal Model Equivalence

Certain types of adaptive algorithms used for repetitive control are input/output equivalent to linear time-invariant controllers. This paper concerns the consequences of this equivalence for analysis and design of these types of adaptive controllers. Specifically, the role of zero placement in the linear time-invariant equivalent is closely examined using root locus analysis, and a modificatio...

A Procedure to Set Phase and Amplitude of the Rf in the Sns Linacs Superconducting Cavities*

This paper describes a procedure to set the phase and amplitude of the RF fields in the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) linac’s superconducting cavities. The linac uses superconducting cavities to accelerate the H ion beam from the normal conducting linac at 185 MeV to a final energy of ~1 GeV. There are two types of cavities in the linac, 33 cavities with a geometric beta of 0.61 and 48 caviti...
